Our Approach to Teen Mental Health Treatment

Therapy at Austin Center for Teens starts with listening. Every teen who walks through our doors brings their own history, their own struggles, and their own strengths – and our job is to build a treatment plan around them, not the other way around.

We blend evidence-based clinical methods with creative, experiential, and holistic therapies that meet teens where words sometimes can’t reach. Some teens open up faster in art therapy or with an equine partner than they ever would in a traditional office. We make room for both.

Inside Our Austin, Texas Facility

Explore Our Austin Teen Mental Health Facility

Our single campus in Austin was designed from the ground up for teen mental health treatment. Male and female residential teens are housed in separate, dedicated areas of the same facility – giving each group the privacy and structure they need while keeping our clinical team close at hand.

Rooms feel more like a private retreat than a treatment center. Common areas invite connection without forcing it. Outdoor spaces give teens room to breathe, move, and decompress. And because the environment is pet-friendly, your teen doesn’t have to leave a beloved companion behind during one of the hardest seasons of their life.

Everything – residential care, IOP, outpatient services, and virtual therapy – operates from this one Austin location. That means consistent care, one clinical team, and a smoother experience for your family from intake through aftercare.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ages do you treat?

Austin Center for Teens serves adolescents ages 12 to 17. Our programs, facility, and clinical team are built specifically for this age range – not adapted from adult or younger pediatric models.

How quickly can my teen be admitted?

In many cases, the same day. After a brief phone call with our admissions team, we verify insurance, complete a clinical assessment, and – if it’s the right fit – coordinate admission the same day. Our 24/7 stabilization environment means there’s always a safe place ready for your teen.

Can my teen bring a pet during their stay?

Yes. We’re one of the few teen treatment facilities in Texas that’s genuinely pet-friendly. Your teen can bring their own pet during residential treatment, and family pets are welcome during visits. Every pet arrangement is coordinated with our admissions team in advance so we can keep the environment safe and comfortable for everyone.

How does Virtual Therapy work?

Virtual Therapy connects your teen with a licensed clinician through secure video sessions. It’s a strong option for families across Texas who can’t easily reach our Austin campus, for teens stepping down from in-person care, or for teens with milder symptoms who need consistent support without disrupting school and home routines.

How often can I visit or talk to my teen during treatment?

You’ll have a consistent, structured schedule for phone calls, video check-ins, and on-site visits. Specifics depend on your teen’s clinical plan, but family involvement is built into our model from week one. Our team will give you a full communication schedule at admission.

How long will my teen be in treatment?

Residential typically runs 30 to 90 days. IOP usually lasts 6 to 12 weeks. OP and Virtual Therapy continue as long as they’re helpful. Every length of stay is determined by clinical progress, not a fixed calendar.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes – most major insurance plans are accepted. Our admissions team verifies your specific benefits during your first call so you know what’s covered before making any decisions.

What should we pack for residential treatment?

We’ll send a complete packing list at admission. The basics include comfortable clothing, toiletries, any prescribed medications in their original packaging, and a photo ID for your teen if applicable. If your teen is bringing a pet, we’ll provide a separate pet-specific list so you know exactly what to bring for them too.
